Train
Breed
Lighthouse Canine Learning Center offers many different courses to fit your dogs needs. We firmly believe that training starts when the puppy is born, so we offer help selecting a puppy that is right for you, mentorship through the preparation phase, and in-home training at 8 weeks old. If your dog is older, we can start any time, but will have to have honest discussions about the capabilities of your dog aligning with your expectations. Our head trainer has been training dogs for over 2 decades, getting her start in her back yard with her Cocker Spaniel, then volunteering at rescues cleaning kennels, walking dogs, then training for Petco-but thought their "cookie cutter" approach wasn't right for every dog. Private training turned into rescue when owners gave up on dogs instead of paying for training. Mischevious or scared dogs were transformed and adopted out, and "Save My Tail" was born. The rescue focused on large and giant breeds with behavioral problems. When a dog with "that sparkle" came in from the rescue dogs, we trained and adopted them to a person with a disability for under $1500, significantly reducing their initial investment on a life changing medical device. After 12 years of operating Save My Tail, Brandi was in a car accident and could no longer manage rescue dogs from a wheelchair, so now the focus is completely on Lighthouse Canine Learning Center.
We hold the American Kennel Club's Breeder Certificate for Canine Selection, and use those standards as a foundation for our breeding program. Selecting dogs to become Service dogs and Therapy dogs comes with a much higher level of responsibility than companion dogs. People who depend on their Service dog to maintain their daily life rely on a healthy, well-bred dog. We offer animals that have been selectively bred from 4 generations of Service, Therapy, and CGC/pet dogs. Our lines are Embark Tested, free from all genetic disease, tested for heat induced collapse, OFA Eyes, DVM Approved Hips and Elbows. All of our dogs are guaranteed free from genetic disease for 5 years, and communicable disease for 1 year. Since the standards are very high to become a Service Dog trainee, partially trained puppies or young dogs from each litter are available to pet homes.
Our puppies are a mix of Saint Bernard with low content (less than 30%) Old English Sheepdog. This mix makes for a non-shedding coat. It Gives the St. Bernard enough enthusiasm to work, removes the issues with excess drool and entropion eyes. It also lightens the dogs down to a size that is manageable for a person in a wheelchair to fit in the community with, while still having the nurturing personality. They are highly biddable and have a strong desire to do taskwork and are eager to please their handler. They form deep emotional bonds with their person and are very well-balanced, confident dogs who consistently make wonderful working dogs.

What we have to offer
Tested Service Dog Registry
Get tested today to become part of our registry. While the ADA DOES NOT require any form of testing, or identification, we acknowledge that having your dogs skills tested by an accredited dog trainer is just another tool in your toolbelt when you encounter a tough access situation. Tested dogs get a custom embroidered vest, ID Card, and link to their dogs profile on our website that includes and outline of access laws prescribed by the ADA.
Untrained or partially trained Puppies
We offer untrained puppies once a year when they are between 8 and 6 months old. These are puppies that do not qualify for the Service dog program for some reason. The reason may be as simple as "we have too many great dogs", to gait abnormalities or other defects, to behavioral disqualifications. Our standards are incredibly high, and even our pet homes come with a 5 year guaranteed from genetic disease, and come from lines with incredible health and temperament. Our primary focus is on wheelchair dogs, mobility dogs, and autism and PTSD support.
